Game rules for Essex Academy
G e n e r a l I n f o r m a t i o n
All members should have full knowledge of the English language and have the capability to grammatically correct and spell check their posts (both third person, journal entry, and replies). Dialects/accents are encouraged in third person role plays only, unless spoken with the moderators.
All members are asked to be knowledgeable of the basic concepts, characters and storylines pertaining to their desired character(s).
Essex Academy allows only two characters per player (moderators four). Most games that have no character limitations wind up dying due to character losses upon a players departure. If the community grows to an extraordinary amount, the character limit will be increased. However, if you have hung around through the best and worst times, you may be allowed to take up a third character. As such, original characters are not welcomed. There are many solid canon characters found within the Marvel and DC Universes to choose from.
You can apply for anyone in the Marvel/DC Universes. If the character you want is Homosapien, you do not have the option of turning them into a metahuman.
All major plot twists consisting of death, marriages, abortions, miscarriages, divorces, kryptonite, drastic power fights, power surges, etcetera need to be approved by a Moderator at least one day prior to the time when the twist is to take effect. If you are unsure if the plot you have is considered major, email the Moderator’s account; We’re here to help, not rule over.
C h a r a c t e r I n f o r m a t i o n
All members are asked to stay true to the canon characterization represented in the Marvel or DC universes. If you fail at keeping a canon character's personality, you will receive one warning before they are removed from you. Falling out of character is exemplified in the following: a boisterous Batman, a gay Magneto, an unintelligent Beast or a physically weak Superman. This isn't to say Batman can't become boisterous, but a dramatic change such as this takes time.
Essex Academy understands that members are role-playing a major part of these characters’ lives. It seems plausible that characters would develop to the person(s) and environment they're situated in. As such, you are not completely restricted by canon in regard to relationships and actions, just keep in mind Professor Charles Xavier would not join Magneto's cause nor would Logan have a night of wild passionate sex with Gambit.
Remember the characters are altered to the point where there is a wide selection for members and perspective members to choose from. While the characters’ personalities are asked to remain canon, we have altered events for the sole reason of including more into the game, giving more options to our members, and presenting more plot devices to every character apart of this game.
D r a m a
Essex Academy does not tolerate any form of serious out of character drama. We do not want any form of arguments or squabbles (including but not limited to flaming, bashing, baiting, or Godmoding) that will emerge in the role-play. People have the right to their own opinions; however, this role-playing game was not created for that purpose.
Solve all problems off the public boards of this site via a type of messenger, private messaging accounts or emailing. We do not wish to have our role-playing experience tainted by someone’s bicker. If you find that you can not handle it by yourself, or it stems from a character quirk, you can contact the Moderators and we will help you settle it. That is why, after all, we are here.
Remember, real life always takes precedence over the role-play. Because of this, not everyone can be online daily. If you find yourself in a stale thread for a week, feel free to private message the involved player(s) and ask when they will be available, being considerate of fellow role players makes for a smooth role-playing environment.
Those accepted into the role play will not be subjected to judgment based upon writing skills and/or character portrayal.
P o s t i n g
Personal journals are to be written in first person. All replies to a character’s journal entry must be in first person as well; the journal is your characters’. They are writing about their day, thus, they will be using “I”. They will also be using “I” in their replies to another’s entry. No exceptions.
In order to make an entry private, put that section of the post behind an LJ-cut (example, remove the star, <*lj-cut text=“Private to Clark and Bruce...*”>Message.<*/*lj-cut>).
Essex Academy offers a variety of ways to role play (logging and threading). It is a requirement, however, that you remain active at least once every month (we hope more so). This role play is dedicated to creating a relaxed environment without the need to force its players into posting. If activity becomes too sporadic by players, these rules will become stricter.
Please use the zig-zag tag method in order to keep tags clean. The zig-zag method refers to the start of a new thread, under the same post, after 25 consecutive comments in a thread.

The following formates are to be posted in the main role play community. If an rp is played through aim, we ask that you take out the screen-names of logs and place them into “story-book” format before you post them in the community boards. Remember to remove the stars when posting inksome cuts.

J o u r n a l s
Character's must incorporate their school schedule (be it student, professor, or stay) on their profile page. Character information can be either linked via a journal entry or placed upon the bio page as well. If you made it this far, please place Keeper of the Reaper in response to the application question regarding rules. Without this key information, your application will be rejected.
Portrayed-Bys are a representation of your characters physical appearance. Be mindful of appearances when choosing your PB as they must resemble the description given. For example, Rogue has a white streak in her hair, Gambit has red on black eyes, Beast Boy is green, etc. You wouldn't use Seal to represent Superman nor would you pick Johnny Depp for Aquaman.
All characters must have some, if not all, human portrayed-bys to be accepted into this game.
Essex Academy does not require you to make your journal "friends only" nor do we speak against it; it is completely up to you. However, we do ask to keep your friends list up-to-date if you decide to go friends only.
