Student Dress Code During school Hours
The concept of school uniform serves two purposes - to instill a sense of belonging and pride in the school and also to eliminate any idea of competition in the matter of personal dress. Each student will be issued a school uniform to be worn while class is in session. In winter an overcoat or raincoat will also be required plus a school scarf which is optional. Students may also purchase a regulation sweater, available in cardigan, pullover or sleeveless vest.
All clothing is expected to be clean and wrinkle free. Shirts are tucked into trousers or skirt. All buttons must be fastened and ties knotted up. Belt buckles must be a standard size (width of belt loop) with no logos or emblems and worn through all belt loops.
Female Uniform
The regulation uniform is worn all year round. It consists of a blue plaid kilt, white oxford button down collar shirt with short or long sleeves, blue plaid "v" tie, navy blazer, navy knee socks or navy tights, and classic white/navy saddle shoes.
Female students are permitted to wear an earring in each ear and one ring on each hand. Earrings should extend no longer than an inch below the earlobe. Necklaces are limited to one and must be worn inside shirt.
Male Uniform
The regulation uniform is worn all year round. It consists of a grey slack, white oxford button down collar shirt with long sleeves, solid black belt, blue striped tie, navy blazer, grey socks, and black dress shoes.
Unisex Physical Education Uniforms
The regulation P.E. uniform consists of navy athletic shorts and grey t-shirt. Navy sweats may substituted during the winter months.
Students are not permitted to wear sunglasses, earrings (boys), body piercing (including tongue jewelry), tattoos, hats, caps, bandanas, and kerchiefs.
After three fifteen in the afternoon, students are allowed to dress in their own clothing.
Student Dress Code After School Hours
Any attire or grooming which is unreasonable, immodest, sloppy, or which affects the academy atmosphere adversely, or which creates a behavior problem, will be considered unacceptable and dealt with accordingly.
Any clothing that displays gang related material or shows racial, ethnic, sexual or religious intolerance or depicts violence is prohibited. Spiked jewelry and wallet chains are not permitted.
Tank tops, tube tops or any attire that reveals shoulders, chest or midriff is not permitted unless accompanied by a jacket. Shorts are permitted attire. While appropriate shorts can be worn by both male and female students during the spring and summer seasons, the following styles and types are not permitted: "cut-offs" or frayed shorts. Spandex or bicycle-style shorts, athletic or running style shorts, or swimming trunks are permitted only for their corresponding activities. Faculty members may ask you to return to your room to change a certain item of clothing and it is expected that you do so.
Hair and Make-up
Girls are allowed to wear make up providing it is applied in a modest fashion and does not distract other students. Boys are allowed to have longer hair provided it is pulled back during classes. For both sexes hair must be clean and kept back out of the face during laboratory classes. |
